"Reflections", 6x9, oil on Yupo. This slick paper gives me options for gloss and glass that are fun to experiment with. The bottle is a funky shape and the ink well a darker cobalt. I worked to get the idea of still life on glass.

Study in Yellow
"Study in Yellow", 11x10, oil on paper. For this painting I was interested in getting a variety of yellows against a neutral background, but also keeping with some complementary tones. I don't usually paint on paper but this works and has a different look compared to canvas or board.

Mom's Vase with Marble
"Mom's Vase with Marble", oil on canvas board, 12x6. This vase belonged to my mother. I have had it 20+ years now. I love it and paint it to remember her. Marbles intrigued me. This one is opaque. As always I have tried to be thoughtful in my color choices. Light was from at least two sources and bit difficult to pin down.

Sunflower, DP #19
Sunflower, 6x8, oil on canvas board, mounted on wood. I love this little vase and thought this Sunflower from the market would be just perfect! This was painted in natural light in my studio.
Next to tulips, sunflowers are my favorite. I have other sunflower paintings I will post as time goes by.
Still cold here in Maine, so cut flowers in the house are really helping give the illusion of spring.
Daffodils just opened outside, so maybe I can paint them next.
I am getting my home studio ready to open for the season. Lots of work but full of promise.

Green and Red, DP #18
"Green and Red" is another small oil painting on Yupo paper. My objective was to paint in a limited complimentary palette. After the set up my eyes kept focusing on the shadow which, of course, I included. Oil on yupo is fun. I recommend it.

Marble, Bottle and Shadow, DP #15
"Marble, Bottle and Shadow" is a 6'x6' monochromatic study of glass and marble. Again I was captivated by the shadow. It is painted in oil on Yupo paper, a very slick plastic paper that gives really interesting results. I am quite happy with this little painting.

Radishes, DP #13
SOLD
Radishes, 11x14, oil on canvas. Even though this painting is no longer available, I thought it would be interesting to see another radish painting done a bit more abstractly and with bolder color. This one was in a show last Fall at Damariscotta River Grill in Midcoast Maine. It was purchased as a Christmas present. It now resides in Santa Fe.

Radishes on Blue Background", DP #12
"Radishes on Blue Background" was painted after the leaves wilted. Still interesting to me. The rule is to always paint objects in odd numbers. They say it makes for a more interesting composition than even numbers. Yesterday's post almost had an even number of radishes until a dot of an extra radish was inserted.
This still life was painted in oil on canvas. It measures 4"x6".

Radishes On Green Plate, DP #11
"Radishes on Green Plate" is a 5"x7" oil on canvas. Radishes are so beautiful in the market. Also Pears. I love to bring them to the studio to paint. The tricky part is getting them done before the leaves all wilt.
The small still life paintings are done from set ups in the studio using natural light. Tricky in the winter, but better now it is almost spring.

Daily Painting Number 5
"Winter Tulips in the Window", oil on watercolor paper, 9" x 12", depicts my yearning for spring to come here in midcoast Maine. I often buy tulips in February and March to keep up my spirits. This bunch was sitting in a dormer window. I tucked a drape and a vinegar bottle behind it to add some variation. Thank heavens for the sunshine!

Daily Painting Number Three
"Ceramic and Marble " 6"x9" was painted in oil on yupo paper with a limited palette. Again I was interested in the shadow. And it seems these paintings are also a series of marble paintings!
